Today Thursday May 23rd 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the successful repatriation of some of the Ugandan citizens who were victims of human trafficking in Myanmar. This milestone was achieved through concerted efforts by various government agencies and international partners, demonstrating the Uganda Foreign Service’s commitment to protecting Ugandans abroad and combating human trafficking. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was this morning, officially welcomed to State House, Nairobi, by President William Ruto. The visit marked a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries. The meeting commenced with a private tete-a-tete between the two leaders, allowing them to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore opportunities for cooperation. Following this, President Museveni and President Ruto engaged in bilateral talks with government officials from their respective governments.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this afternoon arrived in Kenya’s capital Nairobi for a State visit at the invitation of President William Ruto. The President’s visit aims at strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Uganda and Kenya and exploring new avenues for collaboration and mutual benefits. On arrival, President Museveni was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by a delegation from the Kenyan government led by the Hon. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi , the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

1. The Second Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) between the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Kenya was held at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala, Uganda from 12 to 14 May 2024.

2. The delegation of the Republic of Kenya was led by Hon. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi E.G.H., Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. The delegation of the Republic of Uganda was led by Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni will make a State Visit to Kenya, later this week, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, has revealed at the second session of the Uganda-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission on Cooperation currently underway at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel.

Following a four-year hiatus, the Kenya-Uganda Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) is now underway from 12-14 May 2024 at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel. The JMC is composed of Ministers from both Parties and it is co-chaired by Ministers of Foreign Affairs or other representatives delegated to perform that function. The sectors under spotlight include trade and investment, immigration and customs, energy and natural resources development, defence and security, health services, standards and quality assurance, among others.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this afternoon bid farewell to the outgoing Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Maj Gen. George Owinow who called on him at State House-Entebbe. During the meeting, President Museveni thanked the High Commissioner for his successful tour of duty to Uganda and wished him the best in his future endeavours.

In another win for Commercial Diplomacy, Uganda and Tanzania are preparing for the 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum, scheduled from the 23rd to the 24th of May 2024 at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a Media Launch this morning at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The event, themed “Enhancing our win-win bilateral partnership,” aims to strengthen the longstanding ties between the two nations and foster economic cooperation. Hon.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today held a productive meeting with the United States of America (USA) Ambassador to Uganda, H.E William W. Popp at State House-Entebbe. The discussions centred around various critical matters, including the forthcoming population census, regional peace and stability, and socio- economic development. Recognizing the significance of the population census, the two leaders emphasised the importance of conducting a comprehensive and inclusive count that will provide crucial data for informed decision- making and effective governance.
